Robotic Production Technology to Introduce RoboTrim RT-500 Router Trimming Solution at NPE 2006

Robotic Production Technology (RPT) will introduce the latest addition to its family of standard router trimming systems, the RoboTrim RT-500, at NPE 2006: The International Plastics Showcase at McCormick Center in Chicago, June 19 to 23. RPT is exhibiting in booth #9620 with FANUC Robotics America.

The RPT RoboTrim(TM) RT-500 is a new pre-engineered router trimming and knife deflashing system designed specifically for the plastics industry. The RT-500’s increased part height capability gives customers the flexibility to process a variety of part sizes and shapes. The system’s speed and reliability result in more uptime and higher throughput to consistently deliver more parts per hour than other trimming methods. The RT-500 is designed to remove the operator from the trimming area, resulting in a safe and ergonomic operating environment. The system is mounted on a single base plate and designed for quick installation and start-up.

The RT-500’s riser-mounted robot and servo-controlled rotating table allow it to easily process 60″ x 60″ x 36″ high parts typical of thermoformers. Longer parts of up to 80″ x 36″ with shorter heights can also be processed. The system is designed with three sides of access to the fixture and servo table, since two personnel are typically needed to move these large parts.

The ability to incorporate one of two different robot models allows customers to adapt the spindle size to the part material. The RT-500 can be configured with either the RPT AccuTrim(TM) R-44 robot or the RPT AccuTrim(TM) R-110 robot. The R-44 is capable of utilizing up to a 3 HP spindle with automatic tool change features, while the R-110 can utilize up to a 15 HP spindle with automatic tool change. RPT offers many spindle models and speed options and assists each customer to select the spindle that best meets their needs.

“We’re excited to introduce yet another standard RPT system for the router trimming and deflashing markets,” said RPT CEO Chuck Russo. “The RoboTrim(TM) RT-500 system features the increased productivity, flexibility and reliability that customers have come to expect from RPT.”

In addition to the standard servo-controlled rotating table, safety enclosure with sliding front doors, system controls and safety equipment, the RT-500 system exhibited at NPE will feature RPT’s new AccuTrim(TM) R-110 robot with a 3 HP electric spindle and six-second automatic tool change option. It will also be equipped with the optional vacuum delivery system and 5 HP vacuum pump, RPT RouterWare application software, Fixture Tag ID for automatic part identification, and System Calibration Tools to make fixture change and tool center point corrections quickly and easily.
