GM should be happy. I'm finally getting spoiled by telematics. Case in point, I was driving to work in the 2003 Cadillac CTS when the digital readout at the top of the center stack said ' headlamps suggested '. My first reaction was to say to the car (out loud, mind you), 'if you think I need headlamps then why don't you turn them on? '

Cars Worth Noting - 2003 Cadillac CTS

2003 Cadillac CTS

GM should be happy. I'm finally getting spoiled by telematics. Case in point, I was driving to work in the 2003 Cadillac CTS when the digital readout at the top of the center stack said ' headlamps suggested '. My first reaction was to say to the car (out loud, mind you), 'if you think I need headlamps then why don't you turn them on? '

Wouldn't it be more personal if the car turned on my headlamps and then told me they were on for my safety? Now that's a caring car.

Cadillac has made a few improvements to their edge-designed flagship for 2003. The old 3.0L V-6 has been replaced with a revamped 220 hp, 3.2L V-6. The engine in our test car was mated to a Hydra-Matic 5-speed automatic transmission, (a Getrag 5-speed manual is the other option) that can be set for sport, winter or economy modes at the touch of a button. GM has also utilized high-strength steel as a welded member of the uni-body a first for them.

The CTS is a competent road car, but Cadillac might consider making it even more Cadillac. Why not offer an Escalade-like interior on the CTS? That plush leather, wood and chrome screams Caddy. It's the only thing that makes the Escalade a Cadillac and it would certainly add that distinction to the CTS. Let the grown-up boy racers have the V version, that's coming out next year. All I want is a comfortable car that turns my headlamps on, adjusts my seat and finds my favorite radio station.

If it cared that much, I just might opt for OnStar.
