ARC AUTOMOTIVE TO PROVIDE 1.5 MILLION AIRBAG INFLATORS FOR NEW GLOBAL PLATFORM VEHICLES

Innovative PH-7 Inflator Selected for Reliability and Adaptability in Several New Model Safety System Configurations

by Steve Barclay

ARC Automotive Inc., a leading producer of inflators, announced that it has been selected to provide 1.5 million inflators for airbag passive safety restraint systems in new production passenger vehicles.

“ARC Automotive is pleased to build on our longstanding relationship with KSS to produce PH-7 hybrid inflators for the vehicle passive safety restraint systems,” said Ali El-Haj, President, ARC Automotive Inc. “The inflators will be in the vehicle safety systems in multiple new passenger models in North America, Europe and Asia.”

The PH-7 hybrid – a compact passenger disk style inflator – was extensively tested and was selected based on performance, reliability, and the technology’s ability to be easily tailored by the OEM for regulating the generant, gas and orifice for a particular vehicle safety system.

Production will begin in 2011 and continue through 2018.

The inflator offers performance flexibility and will be incorporated by KSS, a leading global supplier of advanced engineered safety products (www.keysafetyinc.com), into passenger side airbag modules fitted to a wide range of models from subcompact through family-sized vehicles.

ARC Automotive developed the hybrid inflator, which utilizes a smokeless gas generant to charge the airbag when deployed.

ARC Automotive is a supplier to the world’s developers of passive safety restraint systems and also works directly with automotive original equipment manufacturers on safety restraint system design.

In the early 1970s ARC Automotive pioneered the hybrid inflators used in today’s vehicle airbag systems.

ARC Automotive Inc., a leader in inflators and propellants for the automotive industry, is a global supplier to the manufacturers of vehicle airbag safety systems.
