Siemens And ROY-G-BIV Offer Strategic Advances In Machine Tool Motion Control

by Steve Barclay

Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. and ROY-G-BIV Corporation announced a multi-faceted partnership that combines the Siemens Motion Control Information System (MCIS) software solution with ROY-G-BIV’s XMC© universal machine connectivity software. This partnership creates factory-wide productivity solutions that can operate across various brands of machine tools and motion-controlled equipment.

XMC is the universal interface enabling customers to use Siemens MCIS software solution on their existing production network. Siemens MCIS software solution is a system that provides fast, easy integration of production machines into the production network while ensuring that production planning, scheduling and execution is problem-free and based on the latest data. With the MCIS-XMC offering, Customers will benefit from reduced machine setup times, increased efficiency, reduced machine downtimes and simplified fault analyses throughout their entire production.

“Our partnership will allow us to deliver unmatched software solutions and value-added services that boost manufacturers’ productivity and profitability capabilities,” said Wolfgang Rubrecht, general manager, Siemens Energy & Automation, Machine Tool Business. “Customers will now be able to use our MCIS software products more effectively on machines with either Siemens or non-Siemens control hardware, a unique strategic advantage within the proprietary machine tool industry.”

“This partnership is an excellent union of strengths to provide what customers have been seeking for years — a machine-neutral software solution that provides unprecedented access and visibility into manufacturing operations reliant upon legacy or modern CNC machine tools,” said Jay Clark, President and CEO of ROY-G-BIV.

Siemens and ROY-G-BIV are launching the first of several integrated products in 2008 under the Siemens Manufacturing Excellence global initiative. Coupled with a full line of industry-relevant services, MCIS-XMC offerings will enable customers to realize the full benefits of information-driven manufacturing by providing factory solutions that more capably interoperate with machines from many vendors.
