MTA SpA Chooses QNX for In-Car Infotainment Systems

First production systems, including digital instrument clusters, scheduled for deployment in early 2011

QNX Software Systems today announced that MTA SpA has chosen the QNX® Neutrino® Realtime Operating System (RTOS) as the software platform for MTA’s next-generation in-car infotainment systems.

The new systems will include digital instrument clusters and multimedia consoles for high-performance automobiles. The first production models are scheduled for deployment in early 2011.

Founded in 1954, MTA is an international supplier of electronic and electromechanical components for Aprilia, Ducati, BMW Motorrad, Ferrari, Fiat, Fisker, GM, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Saab, Tata, Volkswagen, and other automotive and motorcycle manufacturers. Headquartered in Milan, MTA has two production units in Italy and branches in the USA, Brazil, Poland, Slovakia and India.

“Our customers are building some of the world’s most exciting and technologically advanced automobiles, and we needed an operating system that could deliver the reliability, realtime performance, and extremely fast startup times these vehicles demand,” said Antonio Falchetti, general manager, MTA. “The QNX Neutrino RTOS not only satisfies these requirements, but helps us minimize development time and hardware costs.”

“In-car systems such as digital instrument clusters are becoming incredibly sophisticated, delivering rich user experiences while having to maintain automotive-grade reliability,” said Andrew Poliak, director of automotive business development, QNX Software Systems. “The QNX Neutrino RTOS, with its proven realtime capabilities, high-performance graphics, and scalable architecture, enables suppliers like MTA to deliver a compelling user experience today while gaining the flexibility to support the must-have applications of tomorrow.”

QNX Software Systems is the global leader in operating systems and middleware for the automotive telematics and infotainment market, with software technology licensed for approximately 20 million in-vehicle systems worldwide.

MTA will be demonstrating its latest technologies at the QNX Automotive Summit, which will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, on November 17. Summit sponsors include Alcatel-Lucent, ARM, Delphi, Freescale, Harman, Nuance, Texas Instruments, and others.
