The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), a world leader in specialty elastomer technologies for automotive thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) compounds, will showcase its technical knowledge and leadership at the 14th Annual TPO Automotive Engineered Polyolefins Conference September 30-October 3, 2012 in Troy, Michigan. Attendees can visit Dow at booth 7.

Dow’s specialty TPO elastomeric solutions for automobiles encompass the entire vehicle, from under-the-hood to interior and exterior applications. Elastomers are added to polypropylene-based compounds to improve ductility and impact toughness for a variety of automotive parts including bumpers, instrument panels and airbag covers.

Elastomers offer multiple end-use benefits for automotive TPOs including impact efficiency, lightweighting capability and reduced damage during impact. Dow continues to invest in technology to bring new solutions to the automotive marketplace.

“Dow is an innovative leader in thermoplastic polyolefins. We focus on specialized solutions that allow our customers to deliver differentiated products for this highly competitive industry,” said Veronica Perez, global strategic market manager for Transportation, Dow Elastomers. “We offer a broad product portfolio that allows us to meet the diverse requirements of the industry. Our goal is to meet and exceed customer needs for applications that require stiffness, toughness, design flexibility and lightweighting. The Elastomers team is introducing new technologies – like ENGAGE™ XLT – and helping to qualify new materials to meet specific application needs for the transportation market.”

In addition to exhibiting in the product showcase, Dow technologists will present two technical papers that offer insight on how automakers can incorporate elastomeric solutions into the design and functionality of their products.

• Tuesday, October 2, 2:30 pm, Salon D, The Role of TPO Compounds in Meeting Global Energy Demands – Jim Hemphill, Technical Service and Development, Dow Elastomers
o Will highlight Dow’s efforts in developing TPO compounds that enhance impact efficiency and part toughness, thus opening the door to higher performing, lighter weight parts.

• Tuesday, October 2, 3:45 pm, Dennison Room, Rubber Toughened Polypropylene Compounds: A Materials Science Perspective – Kim Walton, Research and Development, Dow Elastomers
o Will discuss how rigid polymers, such as polypropylene, can be toughened to meet high impact strength requirements for the automotive market.
