German automotive supplier Eberspaecher is starting up exhaust technology production in Shanghai-Jiading. Components as well as complete exhaust systems will be produced.
Customers are international and local passenger car and commercial vehicle makers.
Initially, catalytic converters, manifold-cat modules and mufflers for Western and Asian passenger car makers will be produced in the supplier’s new Asia headquarters.
Complete exhaust systems will be manufactured for a local commercial vehicle engine maker.
With the expansion of the product range, by 2014 around 90 co-workers are set to be employed, in the long-term approximately 400.
“The start of production is an important step towards the improved servicing of our customers in Asia, where we are expecting dynamic growth based on our technological expertise and emissions legislation which is becoming ever stricter”, says General Manager Richard Hu. Besides global customers, a focus will be on local passenger car and commercial vehicle makers. The further strengthening of on-site development expertise is already planned, and a Tech Center with 4,400 square meters will adjoin the new production plant in the medium-term.
Eberspaecher has already been represented in China since 2003 as part of a joint venture at the sites of Dalian and Changchun. There, around 130 co-workers assemble exhaust systems and mufflers for top international manufacturers. In 2011, Eberspaecher Exhaust Technology Shanghai Co. Ltd. was established.
Besides China, the USA and Europe, the exhaust system specialists have manufacturing operations in Brazil, South Africa, India and Russia. Since 2009 the group has been represented in Beijing, where subsidiary Eberspaecher Automotive Technology Co. Ltd. produces electrical auxiliary heaters.
