Brose Purchasing Wins the Sector's Oscar

by Nick Palmen

The Brose Group has won the internationally recognized World Procurement Award in the "Best Procurement Team" category. The prize is considered to be the "Oscar" for excellent procurement management. It was presented on 18 May 2016 by the global association Procurement Leaders in London.

The automotive supplier won over the jury with its innovative purchasing management and cross-functional collaboration between Brose purchasing staff, quality and development engineers, specialists in project management and strategic suppliers. "It was important for us that the sense of belonging to a team was felt well beyond the boundaries of Purchasing," emphasized Sandro Scharlibbe, Executive Vice-President Purchasing Brose Group.

The collectively devised solutions led to a significant improvement in the functionality of Brose products and costs. As a result the automotive supplier was able to increase its market share and enhance customer benefit. The jury explained its decision thus: "Precision work. Here, Brose has raised the bar high, setting the standard for the sector." Procurement Leaders is a purchasing association with 24,000 members from over 700 organizations and 50 countries. The World Procurement Award is presented annually.

In 2015, the mechatronics specialist won the trophy in the "Innovation" category for its holistic approach toward getting suppliers involved in the development and innovation process.

In 2015, Purchasing at the Brose Group procured 4.3 billion euros' worth of materials, services and investment goods from approximately 1,500 suppliers worldwide.
