Brose Launches New Production Facility in Spartanburg

Brose North America, a technological leader in mechatronics – the integration of mechanics, electrics and electronics – signed a lease on June 20, 2016 on an approximately 77,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The nearly $6 million investment will create more than 60 new jobs to produce door systems and systems for on-demand control of cooling air supply for Brose’s automotive customers.

“Announcing our fourth facility in the United States is a proud moment for the company and a testament to the value and quality products Brose provides its customers. We take pride in our products as well as our commitment to streamlining logistics and providing high-quality customer service – this facility supports all of the above,” said Mike Brosseau, President Brose North America.

Expanding footprint, providing fuel efficiency

The Spartanburg plant will produce Brose’s light-weight carrier door systems and systems for on-demand control of cooling air supply for BMW. Light-weight door carriers enable a weight saving of 1.8 kilograms per car set, effectively supporting fuel efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions reduction. Systems for on-demand control of cooling air supply help vehicles run at optimal levels to reduce fuel consumption, improve engine temperature management, and enhance aerodynamics in large vehicles such as SUVs.. Series production of both products is expected to begin in August 2017.

“Brose chose this location because of its proximity to our customers. We are glad to expand our United States footprint and bring new jobs to the Spartanburg community. The State of South Carolina and Spartanburg County have been very collaborative and supportive. We look forward to continuing these partnerships and developing others with members of the community,” said Michael Morgenroth, General Manager of the new Brose Spartanburg plant.

Forming Strategic Partnerships

The State of South Carolina, along with local government and organizations, has offered support and resources to Brose for the development of this site. To prepare a local workforce, readySC(TM), a government organization that collaborates with 16 technical colleges, provided branding, hiring and training support to Brose. In addition, interim office and warehouse space have been provided by Spartanburg County.

“Our automotive industry is truly one of the driving forces behind South Carolina’s economic growth, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome Brose to our family. This nearly $6 million investment, as well as the more than 60 jobs it means for Spartanburg County, will make a huge difference in the Upstate and is a reason to celebrate across the state,” said South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
