MTT MoteurTesT Accomodates Heavy Engines for Performance and Endurance Tests
Kimberly Elsham :
MTT MoteurTesT is a test bench facility, home to more than ten separate benches for motor vehicle and airplane engines. The company will present its facilities and services at the SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress & Exhibition in Rosemont, Ill., from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 at booth 706, the Diesel France pavilion.
The different markets using diesel technologies are constantly evolving whether it’s adhering to varying anti-pollution standards, reducing operating costs, or for enhancing drivability in general—a major touchstone for the public market. The integration of electronics into managing diesel engines has considerably evolved the technology in the past ten years. The main changes are without a doubt the progression from of the low-pressure indirect fuel injection to a high-pressure direct injection, but also the integration of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) systems and particulate filters, which allow engine manufacturers to stick to the toughest anti-pollution standards.
Attuned with changing manufacturer requirements and increasingly stringent emissions regulations, the MTT facility is equipped with benches specifically designed to accommodate heavy automobile engine and light airplane engine assemblies for endurance tests and technical studies on the engines, endurance tests for precise parts, and can accommodate fuel consumption and combustion analysis tests for both diesel and gasoline engines. MTT has 13 benches altogether, one of which entirely dedicated to testing cold starts, one to accommodate propellers, and one inclined test bench. Trials using any type of fuel are possible, including gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, methane gas, LPG/GPL, and more.
The company also offers off-site testing by sending its technicians to perform tests at a client’s site. MTT currently has about 15 clients including Delphi, Honeywell Garrett, PSA, Renault, SAPCO-Iran, SMA, and Valéo.
