Chicago, September 2, 2009 (word count: 389)
Lyon Urban Truck & Bus 2015 (LUTB) is a French regional cluster for public mass transit and the transport of goods in an urban environment. The cluster is a European and global reference, from research to implementation of urban mass transport systems for passengers and goods. It helps create balanced, field-tested, innovative solutions, addressing the social, economic and industrial challenges of urban transport. The cluster will be exhibiting at the SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress and Exhibition in Rosemont, Ill., on Oct. 6 and 7, 2009, as part of the Truck Tech France Pavilion, booth 607.
INVENTING THE URBAN TRANSPORT SYSTEMS OF THE FUTURE
On July 12, 2005, LUTB was founded by Renault Trucks, Irisbus France, l’Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP), l’Institut National pour la Recherche dans les Transports et leur Sécurité (INRETS), le Grand Lyon and the Lyon Chamber of Commerce. Its mission is to take up the challenges raised by the growth in the need for mobility of persons and goods in urban environments.
LUTB incorporates five collaborative research programs:
Motorization and powertrain
Develop a high-performance, environmentally friendly powertrain for diverse urban transport applications.
Integrated safety / security
Design solutions to improve the safety and security of industrial vehicles.
Architecture and comfort
Design tomorrow’s urban vehicles to meet the challenges of sustainable development and mobility in the city.
Create comprehensive transport solutions, including communication between vehicles, infrastructures and the urban system, as part of the drive for sustainable development.
Modeling and management of urban mobility
Optimizing public roadways, urban process and freight mobility.
It also includes three priority interdisciplinary programs:
Shared testing and resource facilities
Lyon Urban Truck&Bus has started an ambitious program to provide testing equipment that is available to all members of the cluster.
The Think Tank is a true breeding ground for ideas that lead to future projects. It encourages creativity by bringing together specialists in urban transport engineering, specialists in social issues, scientists and business leaders.
These scientific and technical forums provide a regular update on the state of research in urban transport systems.
