The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company will sell an exciting and pristine collection of American muscle cars from Keith Henderson at No Reserve during the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction at WestWorld of Scottsdale, Jan. 17-23, 2011. The group will highlight some of the most coveted GM and Chrysler muscle cars in the world from the 1960s, ’70s and today, including big blocks, HEMIs and “one of ones.” SPEED will capture the action during its 40 hours of live coverage.
“We’ll kick-off the new year with an outstanding collection of world-class muscle cars from Mr. Henderson,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Keith has been a Barrett-Jackson consignor for many years and his vehicles always generate buzz during our auctions. These amazing muscle cars reflect his knowledge, expertise and ownership of some of the finest muscle cars in the world. The sale will definitely be a show stopper.”
Known as a leading car collector, Keith Henderson has consigned multiple vehicles with Barrett-Jackson through the years. In 2004, he starred in the Barrett-Jackson TV show, “Barrett-Jackson’s Car Search,” which hosted a contest between teams from across the country to find vintage cars, restore them, then sell the cars during one of the Barrett-Jackson auctions. Henderson played an integral part in the Atlanta team’s win that year.
“The Atlanta team worked extremely hard to bring people a great car,” commented Henderson. “Each team member contributed their knowledge and expertise, and we were able to capture the win in the end. I want to share with bidders the same hard work and passion we demonstrated on the show through the collection I’m selling in January.”
The collection that will take the stage in Scottsdale features a 1971 Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda coupe, 1970 Chevrolet Camaro “Stage II” Cheverra, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A, 2010 Dodge Challenger, 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, 1970 Chevrolet Berger Camaro RS/SS, 1970 Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda coupe and 1970 Plymouth Superbird coupe.
“These muscle cars will definitely be a wonderful addition to any collection because of their desirable sleek and stylish packaging as well as the power under the hood,” stated Henderson. “Muscle cars have been a focus of mine for years because you can race or cruise around in these rides and the fun never wears off.”
Chevrolet produced a series of powerful muscle and sports cars to compete with the Ford Mustang in the 1960s. One of the most iconic was the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 (Lot #1249.2) that will be highlighted during the auction from the Henderson collection. The white on black Camaro carries the original 302 cid V8 engine with a four-speed transmission, power steering and brakes. It’s documented with the original window sticker, Protect-O-Plate and certified by Jerry McNieish.
Known as the only American sports car to celebrate 50 years of production, Chevrolet has built Corvettes for six generations. Keith Henderson will auction a third generation maroon big block 1969 Chevrolet Corvette convertible (Lot #1249.1) in pristine condition. Its 427 cid V8 four-speed transmission produces up to 435 horsepower. The completely restored vehicle has the original engine and transmission and is documented with the original tank sticker and Protect-O-Plate.
The 1970 Chevrolet Berger Camaro RS/SS (Lot #1252) is the only ’70 RS/SS Camaro Supercar assembled by Berger Chevrolet to compete with Yenko and Baldwin Motion vehicles. This one-off Camaro has 8,300 original miles and comes with complete documentation. The other ’70 Camaro from the Henderson collection is a “Stage II” Cheverra (Lot #1250.2) that represents a true piece of automotive and racing history. An excellent example of the Herb Adams VSE (very special equipment), this vehicle will be a great addition to any enthusiast’s garage.
“Both the Corvette and Camaro were high watermarks for GM during the muscle car era,” added Davis. “These vehicles have remained popular through the years and, to this day, are some of the most sought after rides in the market because people enjoy not only the horsepower, but the striking design.”
Plymouth Performance
“Since the Plymouth brand was retired in 2001, these classics have definitely caught the attention of even more collectors,” noted Gary Bennett, vice president of consignment for Barrett-Jackson. “They were well-liked during the late ’60s and early ’70s and continue to generate high interest at our auctions.”
Henderson will sell an aqua blue 1970 Plymouth Superbird coupe (Lot
#1250) with a 440 cid V8 engine and a four-speed transmission that includes power steering and brakes. The coupe was restored with the original sheet metal and black interior. The original broadcast sheet will also be available for the new owner.
The brown on black 1970 Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda coupe (Lot #1250.1) features a 426 cid HEMI V8 engine with a column shift automatic transmission. The muscle car produces up to 425 horsepower and is registered as one of one in Citron Mist paint. This ‘Cuda is professionally restored.
1971 was another hot year for the Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda. The ’71 ride (Lot #1251.2) from Henderson’s collection has a 426 cid HEMI V8 with a four-speed transmission and matching numbers. Professionally restored to the original specifications and represented as rebodied, the black on black HEMI ‘Cuda is documented with the original broadcast sheet. An inspection by Galen Govier confirms the vehicle as one of two built with these specifications.
Rare Pair
Originally built as a pony car, the Dodge Challenger was first produced by Chrysler in 1970. The rare pink on white color combination 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A (Lot #1251) that will be available at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale has a 340 cid Six Pack V8 with a four-speed transmission and power steering and brakes. Documented with the original broadcast sheet and restored with matching numbers, this gem will be a great cruiser for any owner. It will be sold as a pair with a 2010 Furious Fuchsia Challenger (Lot #1251.1), number 135 of 400 manufactured.
The Dodge couple, along with Keith’s Plymouths and Chevys, will all be crossing the Barrett-Jackson auction block during the Scottsdale automotive lifestyle event in January.
