AeroScout and IQ Deploy Indoor and Outdoor Real Time Location System for Automobile Distributors

Complete Wi-Fi Based Active RFID Solution Improves Efficiency for European Automobile Business

AeroScout, Inc., a pioneer in the field of Wi-Fi-based location and visibility solutions, and InformationslogistiQ (IQ) of Sweden, today announced that Holmgrens Bil, one of the largest automobile distributors and dealerships in Scandinavia, has installed the AeroScout Visibility System to track and manage over 1000 vehicles and other equipment. The solution accurately identifies and locates vehicles across the 700,000 square feet indoor and outdoor facility, enabling increased efficiency and customer service.

“Each day car dealers around the world face the same problem. Exactly where is the car that the customer wants to look at?” said Benny Holmgrens of Holmgrens Bil. “AeroScout’s solution provides this real-time visibility while offering a large array of added features that improve our overall operations by improving revenue, reducing errors and increasing productivity.”

Holmgren’s operates nine sites in Sweden, acting as a distributor for multiple brands of new and used vehicles. The largest of these sites required a system that could track vehicles and associated assets, such as equipment carts, using a standard Wi-Fi wireless network spread across three buildings and five parking lots. AeroScout and systems integrator IQ provided them with a complete solution, including hardware and software for asset tracking and a handheld application for mobile searching. Each vehicle and asset is now automatically tracked in real-time, enabling employees to remotely locate the exact automobile that a customer is requesting, and track the movement of vehicles throughout the facility for management, theft prevention and efficiency.

“With a large mobile inventory of automobiles, and customer satisfaction dependant largely on efficiency of service, complex retail automotive facilities such as Holmgen’s can benefit tremendously from the use of Wi-Fi-based Active RFID,” said Gabi Daniely, VP of Marketing, AeroScout. “The AeroScout Visibility System offers a uniquely flexible solution for this industry, combining high-accuracy location both indoors and outdoors, as well as presence detection, choke-point identification, and both Web-based and handheld applications for end users.”

AeroScout’s market-leading Wi-Fi Tags are attached to each vehicle with a rear-view mirror hanger. Wireless signals from the tags are received by AeroScout Location Receivers and Cisco Systems wireless bridges, which provide the communication and location measurement infrastructure. The solution also utilizes AeroScout Exciters, which complement the system by adding precise location at choke-points as well as greater management capabilities, such as entry/exit control from buildings and gates. Holmgren’s employees use mobile handheld devices with software developed by IQ to search for inventory, and the dealership has also set up IQ’s self-service information kiosks for customers to locate the exact models they are looking for.

AeroScout offers the only Wi-Fi-based visibility system to deliver both indoor and outdoor location, as well as real-time location (RTLS) and choke-point visibility with a single, integrated tag.
