Chemico was among 12 suppliers honored by General Motors for its outstanding performance in 2007 and for supporting GM’s product efforts. The ceremony took place on Thursday, January 17, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.
“Chemico is very honored to receive the Environmental Excellence Award from GM,” said Leon Richardson, President and CEO, Chemico. “We highly value our relationship with GM and their commitment to the environmental responsibility and sustainability,” he continued. “I am pleased to accept this recognition from GM on behalf of our company, our many employees and our suppliers who work so effectively within the automobile supply chain to produce new and efficient vehicles, while at the same time improving our environment,” said Richardson.
Richardson continued, “As a member and leader of the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment (SP), I urge other large, medium and small suppliers to join with a wide range of automobile manufacturers to both improve the environment with our products and technologies, while at the same time improving the competitiveness of the automobile industry,” Richardson stated.
Bo Andersson, GM group vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain said during the recognition event that, “Chemico is part of a select group of suppliers that make a strong contribution to the success of General Motors.” He added, “GM’s direction is clear – to be the best. In order for GM to be the best, our global supply chain must also be the best.”
The Environmental Excellence Award was presented to Leon Richardson by Elizabeth Lowery, GM vice president, Environmental, Energy and Safety Policy. Ms. Lowery stated, “We created this award to commend a supplier that supports GM’s environmental initiatives, exhibits transparency related to their own environmental performance, and brings new technologies to GM that help improve the environmental performance of our facilities, products or both.” Ms. Lowery continued, “Chemico has actively embraced GM’s Chemicals Management System and has helped reduce GM’s chemical costs by 20 percent over the life of their contract, as well as helped the company to reduce its environmental footprint.”
“I thank GM for its commitment to the environment and for this very special award recognizing our company,” concluded Richardson.
