Turkish automotive insulation and industrial foam manufacturer, Mebant zolasyon Ve Bant Sanayi has grown from a medium-sized insulation manufacturer to a €14.5-million global automotive parts supplier.
“Mebant has always been one of the leaders in foam converting in Turkey, thanks to our strict principles for customer satisfaction in each step of our activities, from the Project Design to production and logistics of our products,” says the company.
It is now expanding into the global market and exports products to France, Germany, Poland, Romania, Spain, England and Morocco. Among its domestic clients are big names such as Ford Otosan, Toyota, Oyak Renault, Hyundai and Anadolu Isuzu. Founded in the mid-80’s, Mebant initially produced bitumen impregnated foam filler blocks for the construction industry. In 1992, it began manufacturing industrial foam insulation products and decided to branch out into the automotive industry.
Mebant was promoted to a Tier 11 supplier in 1993 and 1996, the company decided to focus primarily on insulation solutions for the automotive industry, and became a Tier 1 supplier for Ford the same year. The company is now a major supplier of foam insulation parts for most of Turkey’s automotive companies.
“Our main focus is the production of heat, sound, water, vibration and dust insulation products for the automotive, white goods and construction industries,” says the company. Some of the main processes used for foam converting include adhesive lamination, flatbed die cutting, rotary cutting, roll slitting and high-frequency welding.
Mebant is able to supply custom parts using a variety of different foams including PE, PP, PVC, EPDM, melamine and various other cellular rubber materials.
Although automotive parts are its main focus, it also supplies products to the white goods, construction, electronics, HVAC and marine industries.
Mebant offers clients the latest in product manufacturing solutions as well as an extremely high level of service. It operates the latest technology, and all activities are monitored using enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. This software allows the manufacturer to manage all aspects of its business including product planning, maintaining inventories, interacting with suppliers and tracking orders. This is further supported by web electronic data interchange (EDI), allowing the company to store and exchange business documents electronically.
Mebant also has high-tech in-house testing capabilities including acoustic testing and density, flammability, tensile strength, elongation, compression deflection, heat and humidity testing. “We run our activities in four different locations and six buildings in a 15,000m2 enclosed area. We employ over 300 workers at our production locations which include Izmir-Kemalpasa, Izmir Pinarbasi, Eskisehir and Gebze (Ä°stanbul),” says the company which also operates according to strict environmental principals, and is compliant with ISO/TS 16949, ISO 9002 and ISO 9001 requirements. In March 2005, the company was awarded the Ford Global Q1 Quality Award as well as the ISO 14001 environmental management system award.
Mebant is a member of Tasit Araclari Yan Sanayicileri Dernegi (TAYSAD), the Turkish association of automotive parts and component manufacturers. Established in 1978, TAYSAD’s 239 members represent 65 per cent of the automotive supplier industry and 70 per cent of the industry’s exports. According to TAYSAD, it helps its members invest in innovation and expansion to help boost Turkey as one of the leading supply centers of the global automotive industry.
