The uncertainty of eCall is now a distant thought as the EC earlier announced a recommendation to EU Member States to ensure Mobile Network Operators support the transmission of eCalls. This is the first bold move, for a number of months, towards the mandatory introduction of eCall across the continent.
This Recommendation is not only a significant step towards the implementation of eCall, but also a clear indication to all stakeholders: the eCall service will without any doubt be implemented in all vehicles in Europe, so vehicle manufacturers, network operators and Member States should start working on it, if they have not yet done so.
A reaction to this is already noticeable with movement from several automakers: Both Ford and Mercedes have announced some Bluetooth based emergency assistance plans (not to mention the long standing player in this area; PSA Peugeot Citroen).
Now there is a green light just over the horizon, bringing together the key stakeholders to ensure maximum reward from this mandate is vital.
Telematics Munich 2011 Conference and Exhibition (9th-10th November)… will assemble the industries thought leaders, facilitating networking opportunities and the chance to discuss the latest eCall strategies.
