The FISITA Medal is the international engineering society's highest honor for achievement and leadership in the automotive industry

FEV GmbH, (FEV) a leading developer of advanced powertrain and vehicle technologies based in Aachen, Germany, announced today that its founder Prof. Dr. Franz F. Pischinger was awarded the FISITA Medal, the highest honor that can be bestowed by the international engineering organization.

FISITA is the world body for automotive engineers made up of engineering societies from 37 countries that represent over 185,000 engineers around the world. FISITA president J. E. Robertson presented the award to Prof. Franz Pischinger at a ceremony during the organization’s annual World Automotive Congress, held this year 27 – 30 Nov. in Beijing, China.

The FISITA Medal is awarded in recognition of particularly distinguished achievement and leadership in the global automotive industry. Recipients have included some of the most illustrious names in automotive history, including Giovanni Agnelli, Francois Michelin, Shoichiro Toyoda, Carlos Ghosn and Martin Winterkorn.

“FISITA would like to congratulate Prof. Pischinger and thank him for his exceptional work in the automotive engineering industry,” said Robertson as he presented the award. “He has devoted his entire career to furthering powertrain technology, making engines more efficient by conserving energy and reducing emissions. And to sustain our industry, he has prepared generations of young people for successful careers in engineering.”

Prof. Franz Pischinger founded FEV as a privately held company in 1978, when he headed the Institute for Applied Thermodynamics at the RWTH Technical University of Aachen. Since then, FEV steadily expanded and established Engineering Centers on three continents. Its U.S. Technical Center is located in Auburn Hills, Mich. Prof. Franz Pischinger served as president and CEO until 2003 and continues to serve as Chairman of the Board.

“Through his work and achievements with FEV,” said Robertson. “Prof. Pischinger has made a significant and lasting contribution to improving fuel efficiency and environmental performance of the combustion engine and powertrains throughout the world. In doing so he helped the global automotive industry to conserve untold amounts of energy and reduce harmful emissions of vehicles on every continent.”
