SMI and DEWESoft Introduce Driver Machine Monitoring and Analysis Platform for ADAS Development

Eye tracking and vehicle performance data recorded with SensoMotoric Instruments' and DEWESoft´s measurement platform deliver real-time driver assessments for enhancing the development and validation of Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS)

SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI), the eye tracking technology company, today announced a partnership with DEWESoft, the expert in data acquisition (DAQ) analysis and test measurements. The partnership combines capabilities of SMI’s Eye Tracking Glasses with DEWESoft’s leading measurement technology. The result: A turnkey platform for automotive and other industry applications allowing for real-time synchronization of vehicle performance and human attention data. This solution provides a unique set of data for analyzing and validating Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS) and other human machine interfaces, e.g. in aerospace and transportation.

“The SMI/DEWESoft automotive measurement platform makes it possible to track, measure and report back on the activity of drivers in a qualitative and quantifiable way. The aggregated results of the “off-road glance duration analysis”

Smart and safe human machine interface solutions heavily rely on human behavior. With the integration of SMI’s Eye Tracking technology with DEWESoft’s measurement platform, designers and engineers can now collate and interpret different kinds of relevant data simultaneously, such as all dynamic vehicle parameters, the performance of the ADAS sensors, the driver’s perception, as well as the driver’s reactions to ambient events. Given the significance of the visual channel, the SMI Eye Tracking solution provides an important analytical measurement of the driver’s attention – including a specific analysis module compliant with NHTSA Distraction Guideline testing.

“A critical part of the design process is how humans interact with the car’s ADAS activities” says Herbert Wernigg, CEO at DEWESoft. “The SMI/DEWESoft automotive measurement platform makes it possible to track, measure and report back on the activity of drivers in a qualitative and quantifiable way. The aggregated results of the “off-road glance duration analysis” directly provide the numbers needed in order to fulfill the required NHTSA Driver Distraction Guidelines for in-Vehicle Electronic Devices.”

Arnd Rose, Product Manager Mobile EyeTracking, SensoMotoric Instruments: “The SMI/ DEWESoft platform creates insights into how drivers behave under various conditions. And – in the long run – the unique data set can help the automotive industry pave the way towards an autonomous or self-driving vehicle.”

The SMI/DEWESoft platform featuring the DEWESoft measurement technology and SMI Eye Tracking Glasses will be presented at the annual DEWESoft Measurement Conference.
