Robotic Production Technology to Introduce AccuTrim(TM) WJ-110 Abrasive Water Jet Trimming Solution

Robotic Production Technology (RPT) will demonstrate its new AccuTrim(TM) WJ-110 six-axis robot with Abrasive Water Jet at the IMTS at McCormick Center in Chicago, Sept. 6-13. RPT is exhibiting in booth B-6178/79 with H2O Jet of Olympia, Wash.

RPT will demonstrate three-dimensional, abrasive water jet trimming of a stainless steel part. During the demonstration, the part will be approximately placed into the robot’s work area and an RPT AccuFind(TM) Sensor will quickly locate the part and find varying critical feature positions to ensure the trimming occurs in the correct location.

“We’re excited to introduce yet another water jet trimming solution to the marketplace with more capability than has ever been available before,” said RPT CEO Chuck Russo. “By working with H2O Jet and FANUC Robotics, we’re able to offer abrasive trimming solutions that combine a high reliability robot and high pressure components with system design, software and process knowledge that maximize the productivity of the system and deliver world-class value to our customers,” Russo said.

The new AccuTrim WJ-110 robot utilized in abrasive water jet applications is equipped with a Severe Dust & Liquid Protection (SDLP) package that raises the robot environmental rating to IP67. The robot is also equipped with the new state-of-the-art FANUC R-J3iC robot controller and a high pressure swivel- free plumbing package that provides the highest reliability available today.

The industry leading H2O Jet IDE (Integral Diamond Eductor) nozzle also contributes to outstanding performance and reliability. RPT offers a choice of H2O Jet Ultra High Pressure Pumps with this system, producing up to 60,000 psi of water pressure. All these components are combined into RPT JetTool(R) water jet trimming systems configured to meet customer specific requirements.

“RPT has provided outstanding value and performance to our straight water trimming customers, delivering over 1,500 robots into this type of application since 1988,” said Russo. “With our new, improved abrasive water jet capability, we’ll be able to bring this expertise to more composite and metal trimming applications.”
