Lithium Technology Corporation (LTC) , a global provider of large lithium-ion rechargeable power solutions, announced its Pollution Buster Challenge, by inviting the automotive, agriculture, stationary power, military and recreational industries to join forces to develop effective energy product solutions to fight the growing pollution problems facing today’s environment and reduce the world’s dependency on traditional fuel sources.
Innovation, proven and patented technologies and proprietary battery management solutions have given LTC the leading edge in providing systems that outperform what is on the market today. In fact, highly positive results of a hybrid electrical vehicle (HEV) pilot program in the United Kingdom have proven the LTC’s technological advantages making it a leading contender in the HEV race. For the project, LTC designed a custom 8 KWh battery for a standard mid-size sedan, which has yielded a plug in capability range of 50 miles per charge (MPC) and 75 miles per gallon (MPG) fuel consumption. LTC is poised to play a significant role in the development and enhancement of HEVs and to steer the future of electrical vehicles (EV). The company urges the automotive industry to accelerate their adoption of readily available enabling technology and to work with them to step up technology advancements for a viable future.
“Advanced energy technologies are no longer a novelty of the future — they are today’s necessity in solving the mounting environmental problems we are facing,” commented Dr. Klaus Brandt, executive vice president of LTC and managing director of GAIA, a subsidiary of LTC. “By working together, we can find the answers.”
With custom and standard large lithium-ion batteries and battery management solutions designed to replace traditional fuel sources, LTC offers the largest lithium-ion cells with the highest power of any standard commercial lithium-ion cell produced in the western hemisphere. The company leverages its expertise in high power and large battery assemblies to commercialize advanced lithium batteries as a new power source in the military and national security systems, transportation and stationary power markets. By joining forces with the automotive, recreational and gardening/agriculture industry manufacturers, LTC believes that the synergies formed will leverage existing expertise and research to provide advanced solutions that present an effective means for nurturing the future.
LTC’s knowledge base focusing on large lithium-ion solutions dates back to 1983. Since then, the company has evaluated a wide array of lithium-ion cells and manufacturing processes covering a broad spectrum of applications. Today, LTC employs a unique patented environmentally friendly manufacturing process, which minimizes emissions of organic solvents and eliminates the need for expensive explosion proof coating and solvent recovery equipment, allowing the company to make a significant impact on the environment from manufacturing to market, and ultimately reduces operating costs.
With every three out of four Americans driving a car, gasoline-powered energy wreaks the most pollution havoc on the environment, yet it is the most accessible assault to correct. According to a report by the EPA, the average American puts about 15,000 miles on their car annually, which is the equivalent of about six tons of pollutants per year.
“Cars utilizing rechargeable lithium-ion batteries can make a substantial dent in the increasing pollution problem,” commented Brandt. “Emission cuts on an aggressive scale are needed across the board to avoid the worst effects of global warming. LTC has mastered the technology of the future to make a difference today.”
Lithium Technology Corporation (LTC) is a global provider of large format rechargeable power solutions for diverse applications, and offers the largest lithium-ion cells with the highest power of any standard commercial lithium ion cell produced in the western hemisphere. With more than 30 years of experience, LTC leverages its extensive expertise in high power and large battery assemblies to commercialize advanced lithium batteries as a new power source in the military and national security systems, transportation and stationary power markets.
LTC manufactures the GAIA(R) product line of large, high power hermetically sealed rechargeable lithium-ion cells and batteries. The Company’s product portfolio includes large cells and batteries from 10 times the capacity of a standard laptop computer battery to 100,000 times greater. LTC manufactures a variety of standard cells that are assembled into custom large batteries complete with electronics (battery management systems) and electronics to communicate with other components of the system for performance monitoring.
