The Norma Quality Mission aims at achieving “a zero-defect target†for all of its products. It aims to reduce production costs whilst improving products with regard to their size and weight. The company has a range of six product groups, with more than 20,000 variants within the groups.
Societe des Colliers Norma (SCN), the French subsidiary of RASMUSSEN GmbH, is one of the oldest subsidiaries of the group. It was founded in 1981, and now employs over 400 workers.
SCN’s most recent production units manufacture NORMAFLEX plastic pipe systems and NORMAQUICK quick connectors which are supplied to the automotive industry. Automotive customers include the Peugeot/Citroën group, the Renault/Nissan group, as well as their respective subsidiaries and a variety of automotive tier suppliers.
More than 500 million NormaCLAMP hose clips are produced by the German subsidiary every year. To date, over 200 million NORMACONNECT pipe connections have been delivered to German customers.
The North American subsidiary, with 60 employees, is recognized as one of the leading suppliers for connecting and retaining elements. Norma USA products can be found on Ford, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, BMW, Mazda and Honda vehicles.
Other product groups are the NormaFIX retaining products and NORMAPLAST plastic products which are manufactured in other Norma centers worldwide.

The group also maintains a prototype construction workshop which works in partnership with the development and test laboratories to continually develop new and innovative products to suit the needs of the industry. The test laboratory allows designers and engineers to simulate many real-life environments and situations. This ensures that all the products are in line with given requirements. All Norma production areas are equipped with high-tech, fully automated production machines. This allows the company produce more than 3 million production parts per day.
Purchasing
While being a supplier to the auto industry, Norma has its own supply chain. “Of course, part of our success is owing to the expertise of our suppliers. We are always interested in getting in touch with competent suppliers of high-quality products and to set up long-term business relations that are driven by a sense of partnership that is not just theoretical but a fundamental basis for a mutually trusting cooperation,†the company says.
Development and testing
Norma has installed one of the most modern Permeation Test Units, which allows the company’s engineers to perform comprehensive and nearly real-life tests of its systems with different fuel compositions right from the early developmental phases of the product.
Different fuels are employed in the simulation of all loads which act on a vehicle in a temperature range of -40°C to 120°C by means of the Fuel PVT Test Unit (PVT = Pressure, Vibration, Temperature), which is part of the company’s fuel test facilities, as well.
Norma’s engineering department is responsible to work in partnership with the motor sector and other industrial areas to provide solutions. The Engineering is situated within the Rasmussen GmbH Technology Centre in Maintal. The centre has a 55-strong engineering team of development and process engineers, who work to find suitable solutions in cooperation with the customer.
The engineers have a fully equipped modern laboratory at their disposal, in which the specified tests of our plastic and metal products are carried out.
Apart from the standard machinery as employed in industry, the team also uses some high-end equipment, which allows the toughest special tests to be performed, such as a vehicle simulator and PVT testers (PVT = Pressure, Vibration, Temperature).
The team is supported by a modern network of 2D and 3D CAD workstations.
Prototypes are built in an associated Prototype Construction Shop.
