Garmin, Nokia, BMW, Orange, Jaguar Land Rover, Navigon meet to discuss key navigation trends

Europe's Largest Navigation Conference Includes New Track on Advertising

In Berlin this June nearly 200 executives from OEMs, mobile carriers, Tier 1s, device manufacturers, software providers and content providers will meet to debate the future of the navigation industry. Now in its 7th year, Navigation Strategies Europe will unite leading players from across the ecosystem.

This year, the central theme of the event is how to develop innovative products, applications and revenue streams in the maturing world of navigation. The connected PND boom has shown that there is money to be made. The smartphone to car revolution has revealed an amazing opportunity to integrate content and apps into the vehicle and generate serious cash. And eco conscious routing creates another USP for navigation devices.

However, an exciting addition to this year’s agenda is a focused afternoon track on advertising. Often hailed at the Holy Grail and the much needed solution to the problem of free, advertising represents a viable option for the industry in dire need of new business models.

Julien Theys, Senior Mobile Analyst, Screen Digest will be taking a broader look at advertising within a navigation context. Not only will he be assessing mobile advertising’s potential as a keystone for mobile content, he’ll also be giving key facts and figures and explaining why mobile advertising matters in the navigation value chain.

Industry gurus, such as Roger Jollis from Garmin, will discuss how to make money from advertising without being instructive or disruptive to the navigation experience. They’ll also be talking about how adverts will be seamlessly integrated into navigation and explore how advertising will work in a driving environment.

Other highlights of the agenda include a panel session dedicated to smartphone to car integration which includes panellists from Nokia, Jaguar Land Rover, Deutsche Telekom, BMW and Panasonic. This impressive line-up of industry thought leaders will be debating the issues surrounding the in-vehicle content and apps revolution, whilst BMW will also be giving an exclusive insight into their partnership with Apple.
Speakers already confirmed also include Fiat, Intel, Navigon, Bouygues Telecom, Pioneer, waze, Alpine, Orange, AUPEO! and many more.

VP of Navigation at TheWhereBusiness, David Murdoch said “I am delighted to be organising the return of our flagship event. It has been a difficult year for the navigation industry but there is certainly light at the end of the tunnel and the sessions covering advertising should provide answers to some of the key questions. The conference is at the hub of the industry and I am really excited to be in Berlin to witness this year’s discussion and debate”

On top of the great line up of speakers and the agenda, the conference has superb networking opportunities too. Delegates will have access to the online networking tool three weeks before the event, which gives them the ability to contact other delegates electronically to arrange meetings and discussions at the conference itself. Add to this the ten hours of networking time during the two conference days and there’s plenty of time to swap business cards with the rest of the industry.

“Very well organised. I had a list of people I wanted to meet and I got to spend an extensive amount of time with each of them. I was also able to learn quite a lot about the market. Money well spent!” Dean Coclin, Symantec
