Midlands-based manufacturer BM Catalysts has announced increases of 17% in turnover and 40% in export sales in the last 12 months. Not satisfied, the UK’s largest independent manufacturer of catalysts and DPFs has also revealed aggressive plans to expand its European business activities before the end of the year.
Following the recent commercial success, managing director Toby Massey has detailed the launch of a new range of premium products designed with the European market in mind, and a continuing commitment to recruitment and new product development.
Massey was only appointed MD in early 2012 and the timing could not have been better, as he explains: “It’s an exciting time to be taking up the reins at BM Catalysts. We are enjoying a period of growth and are particularly excited to be launching new products into the European market at a time when the rest of the EU is facing huge business challenges. Our message to potential customers is: UK manufacturing is alive and well.”
Massey becomes the third generation of the Midlands-based family to lead the business. Chairman and former MD John Massey took the company from being a local fast fit operation and turned it into Europe’s largest independent manufacturer of aftermarket catalytic converters. He passed control to his son, Toby, in April 2012 after he had spent a decade as Commercial Director.
Toby believes his experience in the business will prove invaluable, as he continues: “We started off sourcing parts from companies like ours, so if anyone knows our customer’s challenges, it’s us. I believe the pioneering NPD, consistency of product and unrivalled availability we offer, combined with an effective business network and renowned customer service, is a winning formula.”
Demonstrating the company’s commitment to new product development, a new range will be rolled out across Europe in 2012.
The BM Catalysts Premium Range will be seen in full for the first time at the world’s largest automotive trade fair, Automechanika, which will be held in Frankfurt in September. The first product in the range will be Silicon Carbide (SiC) DPFs designed to offer customers the choice between standard aftermarket products or higher specification parts offering a higher level of quality. Added to the existing range of high quality catalysts, DPFs and front pipes, the Premium Range makes BM Catalysts the largest independent manufacturer of its kind in Europe.
By the end of this year the company will employ over 300 people in the UK, including a dedicated Part Development Team at headquarters in Mansfield, which quickly identifies and designs future popular parts, keeping ahead of market demand. All parts are developed and manufactured in two state-of-the-art plants in Nottinghamshire, with an average production capability of 3,000 parts a day.
