Large-scale Samuel facility to open in the Southern United States for the growing automotive market

Bill Chisholm, President & CEO,  Samuel, Son & Co., Limited announced plans to open a new Samuel  facility in the Southern USA which will deliver the capacity and  capabilities beyond any other metal service center in the region. “As  part of our company’s increasing commitment to the North American  metals marketplace, we will begin the construction of a new  state-of-the-art metal service center in Columbia, Tennessee,” stated  Chisholm.

Specifically designed to support the growing automotive market in the  South, this new facility will house a new world-class hybrid automotiveblanking line with a width capability up to 2050mm (80.7″). This line  will be further enhanced with the ability to inspect, clean, level and  lubricate sheet and will be able to produce rectangular, chevrons, and  other custom shapes. It will handle new generation advanced high  strength steels and Class A exposed product in both steel and  aluminum. The facility will serve the needs of both Tier 1 automotive  manufacturers and the world’s largest OEM auto makers.

In addition, Samuel will be installing a brand new 2133mm (84″)  slitter. The slitter will include the ability to apply lubricants,  inspect Class A surfaces, and slit advanced high strength steels.

The Greenfield facility will initially consist of 105,000 square feet on  a 30 acre site with rail access. The entire storage and production area  will be environmentally controlled to maximize product quality.

“This additional capacity shows our commitment to the automotive  market,” remarked Chisholm. “Our customers have grown to expect a lot  from Samuel. This investment allows us to step up and deliver the  service and quality our customers require for their current and future  business needs.”

The first phase of this project is expected to be completed by July 1,  2015.
