Video-based safety systems, once a novelty, then the hallmark of an elite fleet, rapidly ascended in 2015 into a commercial fleet must-have, according to Lytx(®), Inc., the global leader in video-based driver safety. Among the indicators, Lytx points to its own 2015 growth, with a year-over-year increase in purchased subscriptions of nearly 80 percent.
Lytx added 365 new clients and more than 100,000 new subscriptions in 2015. Given that Lytx has an estimated 66 percent market share, as reported by Frost & Sullivan, the company growth points to a deeper penetration across all transportation segments–from for-hire trucking and construction to transit, services, and government.
“While increased competition is a bellwether for accelerating category growth,” said Lytx Chairman and CEO Brandon Nixon, “we’ve remained the principal force, serving an incredible and expanding roster of clients, and our growing team of committed employees has risen to the challenge.” Nixon credits the company’s growth in part to Lytx’s safety-minded clients, nearly half of whom have expanded deployments within their fleet to extend safety benefits to other parts of their operations.
“Fleets that adopt Lytx programs and services are putting muscle behind their safety culture,” said Nixon. “As the creator of the video-based safety category, it’s always been our role to blaze trails in driver safety improvement through innovation, and while we deliver the technology and managed services, stellar safety improvements occur when our clients have a matching commitment.”
ActiveVision(SM) Service Launched – Targets Distracted and Drowsy Driving
Another Lytx milestone driving growth this year was the introduction of the new ActiveVision service to tackle distracted and drowsy driving.
“Technology used by commercial drivers can be a double-edged sword,” said Nixon. “While new innovations have delivered great benefits in safety and efficiency, other technologies, like smart phones, have introduced distractions that take the driver away from the job at hand, increasing risk of collisions.”
Addressing this problem, Nixon says, is right in Lytx’s wheelhouse. Its ActiveVision service is the only solution that identifies distracted drivers, and delivers both real-time alerts and post-event coaching to help change the behavior. The ActiveVision service uses machine vision to detect driving behaviors that typify distracted or drowsy driving such as swerving within a lane, driving too slow relative to traffic, or following too close, and then provides highly targeted coaching to help decrease the likelihood of a collision.
Emphases for 2016 – Continued Growth, Increasing Lasting Behavior Change
Looking ahead in 2016, Nixon says, Lytx is focused on continuing to lead the industry in both volume and in safety innovation, with a continual emphasis on helping drivers be safe on the road.
“We’re experts in safe driving behavior and have been honing our systems to deliver the precision insights coaches can use to increase lasting positive behavior change in their fleets. With lasting behavior change, the battle is won – improved driving behavior leads to the prevention of collisions and reduced claims costs,” said Nixon. “But the real victory is knowing that our increasing subscribership is making more fleets safer, and ultimately our roads and communities benefit.”
