FORMULA E FORMS ELECTRIC SPORTS COALITION

FORMULA E FORMS ELECTRIC SPORTS COALITION
All-electric series works with Moroccan Ministry of Youth and Sports to promote electric mobility

Following the Marrakesh ePrix, the FIA Formula E Championship, together with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth and Sports, have joined forces to create the Electric Sports Coalition (ESC).

With the objective to raise awareness of all matters related to electricity mobility and to promote the growth of electric sports, the coalition intends to play a key role in the phasing out of fossil fuels.

A host of key signatories have already pledged their support to the ESC. These include: Formula E (Alejandro Agag), FIA (Jean Todt), Roborace (Denis Sverdlov), Paris Electric (Jerome Fauchet), Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (Bernard Fautrier), Solar Impulse (Bertrand Piccard) and AMEE (Said Mouline).

The ESC will meet annually, where the members will report on the progress and commitments they made towards C02 emission reductions and electric mobility developments. In addition, a road map will be created so that tangible progress in both these areas can be demonstrated.

Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, said: “The time for the world to act on fighting global warming is now. As part of the sporting community, Formula E – with the help and expertise of our partners – can play a key role in not only demonstrating that sport and entertainment can be run in a sustainable way, but that acting in this way can still be exciting and passionate. Through the creation of the ESC, we have brought together a group of sports with the same beliefs. Together we can help amplify this message and inspire more sports, and sports fans to embrace the potential of sustainable technology.”

Independent monitoring and measuring will be carried out to validate these claims and the ESC hopes to not only improve air quality and reduce C02 emissions, but to create jobs within the green economy.

The support of the French and Moroccan governments is integral to the success of the ESC, which hopes to bring other countries and sports leagues into the fold to increase awareness and expand e-mobility.
