Envisage Group, the UK’s leading vehicle concept design and realisation engineering company, has surged into the top 10 in The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 in only its second year of inclusion.

Now in its 11th year, the annual league table ranks Britain’s leading mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales and includes names such as fitness clothing retailer Gymshark. Envisage Group has moved up the rankings from 81st last year to 10th out of the 200 leading businesses for 2020.

Recording international sales of £4.7m in 2018, on total sales of £46.4m, Envisage Group has carried on its upward trajectory through projects across the Atlantic working with electric vehicle companies in California boosting its international sales by 148 percent.

Working closely with OEMs at the front end of their vehicle programmes, Envisage Group offers both design and realisation expertise from concepts, to test public reaction, through the detailed engineering that ensures a programme delivers the right end product. Its skills are particularly compelling for a wave of new automotive entrants and industry disruptors whose expertise does not traditionally lie in mobility markets.

Marking its 11th anniversary, more than 1,000 companies have featured on International Track in the last decade. Alumni include Aston Martin, which floated last year and is valued at £2.8bn, and Fever-Tree, now worth £3bn. Skyscanner featured four times before it was sold to a Chinese group for £1.4bn in 2016. Lush featured on the first International Track league table published in 2010, and has since doubled its overseas sales to £300m.

Sponsored by HSBC, DHL Express and Oracle NetSuite, The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 is compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events firm.

Tim Strafford, Envisage Group CEO, said: “We are delighted that Envisage Group has shot into the top 10 in only our second year of being included in The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200.  It is testament to the work the team has been doing – both in the UK and overseas – that we have made such a significant jump in the rankings. We intend to carry on with this growth through 2020 and I would like to thank the entire team for all their efforts to get us where we are.”

Amanda Murphy, Head of Commercial Banking, HSBC UK, commented: “The Sunday Times International Track 200 shows the strength, ambition and resilience of companies across the UK and we are delighted to be sponsoring again this year. At HSBC UK, we take great pride in recognising the contribution these businesses are making to driving growth across the UK.”

Envisage Group was established in 2009 with one vision: to be the world’s most successful, bespoke engineering services company. Based in Coventry, UK, but with an international footprint in the US and India, Envisage Group is a leading supplier of concept design, realisation and engineering services to the automotive and wider mobility markets.

The Group incorporates Envisage Concept Design and Engineering, Envisage Technologies and Envisage Classic and Bespoke. Clients range from the largest and most prestigious OEMs and product manufacturers to start-ups and even high net worth individuals. In addition to its design and engineering divisions, the Group also incorporates Envisage Recruitment, a specialist engineering recruitment department.

Working closely with OEMs at the front end of their vehicle programmes, Envisage Group offers both design and realisation expertise from concepts, to test public reaction, through the detailed engineering that ensures a programme delivers the right end product. Thanks to a unique set of skills, the business can even build low-volume runs of fully engineered vehicles.

The Group has a global reputation for engineering expertise and craftsmanship; and for the exceptional quality of its services. Although the vast majority of Envisage Group’s work is within the automotive industry, it also operates within marine and aerospace.

About The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200

Fast Track has published league tables of the UK’s top-performing private companies with The Sunday Times for the past 22 years. The company was founded and is run by Dr Hamish Stevenson, who also holds an associate fellowship at Green Templeton College, Oxford University.

League table criteria

Companies had to be registered in the UK and be independent, unquoted and ultimate holding companies. They are ranked according to the compound annual growth (CAGR) in their international sales over the latest two financial years.

Total sales had to be at least £25m and international sales at least £1m in the latest financial year. Companies with sales of less than £25m are covered by our sister SME Export Track 100 league table.

The research was carried out by Fast Track principally between August and December 2018. Data on international sales can be limited. Companies filing abbreviated accounts are not required to disclose any geographical breakdown of sales, while firms that file full accounts can choose to not disclose a geographical breakdown of sales if it is prejudicial to their interests.
