Docter Optics Receives Automotive Lighting Award for Innovation

Automotive Lighting, one of the world’s leading sources of headlights and automotive illumination technology, is a Tier 1 OEM that honors its suppliers once a year for outstanding service with its “Supplier Award.” This award, which is presented at a high-profile event, is given in the categories Quality, Innovation, Logistic Services, Best Cost Country Contribution and Indirect Materials.

Docter Optics received the “Best Supplier Award 2008” in the “Innovation” category for outstanding performance in connection with the development of a special projection lens for the new Mercedes S Class (launch autumn 2009).

Docter Optics, which is headquartered in Neustadt an der Orla, Germany, and has locations in Japan, the Czech Republic and the USA, is the international technology leader in the production of aspheres and free-form lenses for projection headlights. With its proprietary DOC3D molding technology, Docter Optics can produce virtually any lens shape and integrate additional optical functions regardless of the type of light source (LED, xenon or halogen).

The lens developed together with Automotive Lighting features a complex shape with a series of functions required for the new AFX dynamic driving light system of the S Class.

At the award ceremony, Automotive Lighting’s Dr. Michael Hamm praised in particular Docter Optics doubled-side molding technology (DOC3D), the integration of signlight functions into the lens and interesting optical effects that can be achieved by structuring the surface of lenses.

Jens Fischer, Senior Key Account Manager Automotive International, accepted the award for Docter Optics.
