The law firm of Giarmarco Mullins & Horton hosted a meeting with Governor Jennifer Granholm and Mr. Leonid Dolgov, President of the GAZ Group, Russia’s largest automotive manufacturer, discussing planned investment in the Michigan automotive market.
Mr. Dolgov met with Governor Granholm to review a plan to invest $1.5 billion dollars in Michigan over the next five years. GAZ Group is Russia’s largest automotive manufacture of light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, cars, diesel engines, power-train components and road construction equipment.
“This is a good news message for Michigan. Russia is one of the largest emerging market’s and Michigan is their choice for importing automotive excellence into their market.” “This represents an exiting opportunity for Michigan’s automotive industry to provide parts and expertise in one of the fastest emerging markets in the world,” said Governor Granholm.
“We were pleased to facilitate this meeting today. GAZ executives have been working with our legal team making tremendous progress advancing the decision to work with Michigan suppliers and manufacturers,” said Mr. Bill Horton of Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton. “Mr. Dolgov shared some of the most positive news we’ve heard in some time. The growth of GAZ and their continued expanded relationship with Chrysler and an impressive list of automotive suppliers are exciting.”
Mr. Mikhail Popov, will remain in Michigan for the next three weeks, working with Mr. Alexander Lebedinski, of Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, completing contracts for the purchase of automotive parts with Michigan suppliers.
Mr. Dolgov invited the Governor and Mr. James Epolito of the MEDC to attend the opening of the three new assembly plants in the spring of 2008. “We look forward to working with the Governor and Michigan automotive suppliers as we continue to grow.”
