Ai INNOVATION, SINCE 1895

Automotive supplier KSPG AG (Rheinmetall Group) has just been awarded by
notable American automotive manufacturers several large contracts for innovative
mechatronic components designed to reduce consumption and emissions. For the
Neuss, Germany, based Mechatronics division of this first-tier auto industry supplier,
the orders are worth more than €400 million over the entire terms of the contracts.
Supplied will be oil and vacuum pumps as well as exhaust gas recirculation modules,
solenoid valves and throttle valves, with a major share constituting the combined oil
and vacuum pump manufactured by KSPG’s subsidiary Pierburg Pump Technology.

This new generation of pumps allows fuel savings and hence reduced CO2
emissions. In the development of the pump special emphasis was placed on sound level and so the oil and vacuum pump as well as the drive components are engineered for especially quiet operation. Moreover, the compact design more readily allows
installation where space is tight.

The vacuum pump also permits parallel activation of two circuits with differing levels
of pressure. A solenoid valve specifically developed by Pierburg for hydraulic
applications is used for controlling the oil pump and allows it to operate according to
two performance curves.

The new pump is scheduled to go into production at the start of 2015 and will be
manufactured by Pierburg Pump Technology at its new plant in Celaya, Mexico.
