TRW Forward Camera And Safety Technologies Featured On All-New Jeep Cherokee

Safety and electronics innovations from TRW AutomotiveHoldings Corp. (NYSE: TRW) are featured on the new 2014 Jeep Cherokee models, includingTRW’s scalable video camera (S-Cam 2) – a forward-looking object recognitioncamera that provides lane keeping assist and high beam headlamp control, andhelps assist in collision mitigation braking.

The all-new Cherokee is now available in Jeep dealershipsand is one of the most technically advanced Sport Utility Vehicles everoffered.  Already recognized as a TopSafety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Cherokeeboasts a full complement of TRW’s safety and security systems.

These systems provide a range of comfort and safetyfeatures including Jeep’s Passive Entry “Keyless Enter and Go” systemwhich allows owners easy access to the vehicle without even needing to pressthe key fob button. The system is part of a highly efficient configuration inwhich the passive entry, remote keyless entry and tire pressure monitoringfunctions are all controlled by a single electronic control unit.

TRW’s S-Cam family of cameras can provide a range ofsafety functions including lane departure warning, forward collision warning,headlight control, traffic sign recognition and pedestrian detection. Whenintegrated with vehicle chassis systems, the S-Cam camera can provide advancedactive driver assist functions including lane keeping and lane centering(together with electric steering) and automatic emergency braking (togetherwith radar and electronic stability control). TRW’s S-Cam is also featured onthe NCAP five-star and IIHS Top Safety Pick rated 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

According to 2011 National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration (NHTSA) data, 53 percent of road fatalities result from aroadway departure, and IIHS data estimates that lane departure warning and lanekeeping assist systems could save more than 7,500 lives in the USA each year.

TRW announced earlier this year that it was furtherinvesting in its production sites – and in research and development – in bothNorth America and Europe to support its growing camera business worldwide.

In addition to the camera and passive entry systems, TRWis supplying occupant safety equipment including seat belts and advanced safetyelectronics including its Generation 7 Airbag Control Unit with integratedinertial and rollover sensing coupled with side impact, crush zone and pressuresensors to detect crashes. It is also supplying its electric park brake systemthat sets the park brake with the touch of a button and offers many safety andconvenience functions not available with a traditional parking brake.
