WayRay Announces Pilot Project with Porsche at Autobahn Expo

WayRay, a Swiss innovator in holographic AR technologies for connected cars, featured among 33 young tech companies who set to do their pilot projects with 11 corporate partners in the third program of Start Autobahn, the biggest innovation platform in Europe.

The joint projects covered the focal points of e-mobility, human-machine interface, supply chain and logistics as well as related fields of vehicle tech, services, and industry 4.0. WayRay teamed up for a pilot project with Porsche and demoed their results during the Expo Day.

Over 800 attendees had the chance to gain meaningful insights into the cutting-edge innovative technologies and network with corporate executives, investors, mentors, academia, government representatives, and the press. For WayRay, the Startup Autobahn innovation platform is the next step toward bringing holographic augmented reality solutions into the automotive industry.

This year, Startup Autobahn Expo Day showcased the results of 64 cooperation projects between 33 North American and European startups and 11 industry leaders from Germany and Silicon Valley, including Plug and Play, Daimler, Porsche, ZF Friedrichshafen, Deutsche Post DHL Group, BASF, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, DXC Technology, and Webasto.

About WayRay

WayRay has been pioneering the holographic AR technology for the automotive industry since its inception in 2012. The company has its own R&D center and prototyping factory. The products WayRay is currently developing include the aftermarket product Navion, the first-ever holographic AR navigation system, the embedded Holographic AR Display, a built-in solution for car makers, Element, a gamified car tracker for smarter driving, and True AR SDK for developers to create AR apps for cars.

Optical engineering and holography is WayRay’s true frontier. WayRay has developed a single platform for AR rendering that works both for embedded holographic AR displays and Navion, an aftermarket product which was demoed for the first time at CES 2018. Development of a user-friendly AR environment using UI/UX is a complex process. Besides designing the concept, this process includes rigorously testing the design in a virtual city with a life-like environment and later testing the WayRay AR Holographic Display prototype in an actual car.
