Centrality Selects Windows Embedded CE 6.0 to Power the Next Generation of Navigation Infotainment D

Centrality Communications, Inc., a leading developer of GPS Navigation Infotainment System platforms has announced that it will support Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 for its next generation of reference designs based on its Atlas(TM) and Titan(TM) processor families. This makes Centrality one of the first GPS platform providers to announce full support for Windows Embedded CE 6.0.

The newly redesigned kernel of Windows Embedded CE 6.0 will allow Centrality and its customers to bring enhanced multimedia, 3D imaging, and digital content to the GPS marketplace. Future portable and automotive navigation products based on Centrality’s platforms will benefit from increased performance, stability, and wide-area connectivity made possible by technologies found in the latest version of the embedded OS.

“The proliferation of GPS devices demands that device makers continue to innovate and differentiate their devices to remain competitive,” said Jane Gilson, director, Windows Mobile and Embedded Devices Group, Microsoft Corp. “Centrality’s Atlas navigation platform includes our Windows Embedded CE 6.0 operating system, which allows for the support of multimedia, 3D imaging, and digital content so device makers can create next generation of navigation infotainment devices and bring them to market more quickly.”

Rob Baxter, President and CEO of Centrality said: “We are proud of our long history of close cooperation with Microsoft and our hundreds of man years of experience with Windows Embedded CE.

At the outset of our Atlas(TM) navigation platform development in 2002 we chose to focus on Windows Embedded CE because of its flexibility, performance, and low cost advantages. The Atlas(TM) platform as a result has become the benchmark for time to market and cost effective performance in the industry.

Windows Embedded CE 6.0 will enable yet more functionality and faster time to market, in particular through the “cell core” technology — which will allow customers — among other things — low cost access to traffic, weather and other location based services over wide area network or cell phone connections.”

Centrality is a leading developer of semiconductor system solutions for GPS navigation products. Headquartered in Redwood City, California, Centrality also has a worldwide presence with branch offices in Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul, and Brussels. Centrality’s Atlas(TM) and Titan(TM) family of navigation processors together deliver the new standard in features and value for the navigation infotainment systems (NIS) market. By leveraging Centrality’s suite of reference platforms, leading NIS manufacturers can deliver compelling products and services to market quickly.
