Styrolution, the leading global styrenics supplier, has announced it will officially unveil an addition to its Terluran® acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) family of resins, Terluran® TN 100306, at the upcoming International Plastics Showcase in Orlando, which runs from April 2-5.
The new material, which is a specially formulated ABS resin with a Vicat heat resistance temperature of 102 degrees C, is intended for use in applications requiring heat properties higher than most general purpose ABS resins.
It was developed for use in automotive interior applications such as door trim, consoles, and seat trim, as well as exterior applications such as pillar garnishes and mirrors, and has now received approvals at General Motors.
The added heat resistance of TN 100306, combined with well balanced physical and mechanical properties, also make it suitable for use in many different market applications, including use in sheet extrusion – especially for darker colors that require improved heat performance and absorption.
Draxlmaier Automotive, a global parts supplier to the automotive industry specializing in integrated interior components, cockpits, wiring harness and electrical management systems, currently uses the TN 100306 material in automotive applications at their Duncan, SC facility.
“As a global leader in the supply of styrene-based products, Styrolution sought to broaden its portfolio to offer a heat resistant ABS to meet customer needs in terms of performance and cost,” said Thomas Hazenstab, Styrolution North American business director for specialties. “TN 100306 fulfills and exceeds these requirements.”
Styrolution manufactures TN 100306 material at its world-scale production facility in Altamira, Mexico.
