Renault Sport F1, which is supporting four teams in this year’s FIA Formula One World Championship, manages the multiple CAD systems and configurations found in the racecar industry with data interoperability tools from Elysium Inc.
“Since our suppliers use a wide variety of CAD products, we must have the capacity to exchange data and models quickly and accurately,” says Bernard Senges, IS/IT manager for Renault Sport F1. “Our Elysium solution automatically translates everything into the format we want with the extremely high quality our business demands.”
Renault recently renewed their software and service contract with Elysium following an eight-year partnership. “Before we began working with Elysium, it was very challenging to send files and blueprints back and forth with suppliers who used a variety of different CAD systems,” says Senges. “Now we have a supplier portal through which everyone can send and receive data in the format they want. The Elysium solution automatically encapsulates our process and flow, translating everything efficiently and reliably.”
“Manufacturers in many industries are increasingly transitioning into ‘paperless manufacturing’ through model-based enterprise systems,” says Ken Tashiro, Managing Director, Elysium Europe. “While this can lead to significant time and cost savings, the challenges of data interoperability between OEMs and suppliers continue to require sophisticated solutions that support every format of digital communication smoothly, behind the scenes.”
Renault provides the RS27 V8 engine to the 2012 Red Bull Racing, Lotus F1 Team, Williams F1 Team and Caterham F1 Team —all of which were in the top 10 Constructors’ ranking of the Championship as of mid-June.
About Renault Sport F1
Renault Sport F1 is the Formula One division of Renault that has been set up to oversee F1 technical and sporting activities. The main thrust of its work takes place at Viry-Châtillon, traditionally the technical hub of Renault’s F1 activities, in the south of Paris. The RS27 V8 engines and future engine projects are designed, developed and tested using its state of the art facilities. In 2012, Renault Sport F1 supplies four teams in the FIA Formula One World Championship; Red Bull Racing, Lotus F1 Team, Williams F1 Team and Caterham F1 Team. Each team receives identical engines that are maintained by a bespoke group of engine specialists and technicians at races. This ability to adapt to the demands, cultures and ambience of different partner teams has been a key factor behind the success of Renault’s engines throughout the company’s long F1 history. To date, this approach has been rewarded with ten world titles in the Constructors’ World Championship and nine titles in the Drivers’ World Championship.
