Continental Structural Plastics Invests in Advanced Paint Facility at Ohio Plant

Continental Structural Plastics (CSP), a global leader in light-weight composite solutions, announced today it will add a new $18.3-million paint facility at its Carey, Ohio, plant to support the needs of its OEM customers. The new facility advances CSP’s capabilities in Class-A-Finish paint solutions.

“As one of the few composite companies with a state-of-the-art paint facility for Class-A-Finish body panels, CSP can provide improved delivery and flexibility in meeting high-volume requirements,” said Frank Macher, chairman and CEO of CSP. “This investment represents the commitment of our shareholders, management and employees in providing our OEM partners with industry-leading, high-quality finishing options.”

The Carey plant includes 362,000 square feet (33,630 square meters) of manufacturing space with 25 compression presses, a quick die change bond cell, a water jet machine, two long fiber thermoplastic direct processing machines and a 2K paint system. CSP will hire 50 additional employees when the new paint facility is fully operational by the summer of 2015.

Currently, the Carey plant supplies select OEMs with Class A SMC light-weight solutions, which include CSP’s proprietary TCA material for advanced surface quality and strength retention. CSP’s light-weight composite solutions offer a high strength-to-weight ratio, reducing weight in key components while maintaining the safety and appearance standards important to the automotive and truck markets.
