Allegro MicroSystems, LLC Announces Addition of Dual IC Device to “5th Generation” LNB Regulator

High Performance Device with Added Features to Reduce External Circuitry

Allegro MicroSystems, LLC announces a new addition to their existing family of Low Noise Block Regulators (LNBRs). Allegro’s A8302 dual LNB Regulator IC has a comprehensive set of features and functions that can be used for all dual tuner satellite receiver applications. The A8302 consists of a monolithic switching and linear voltage regulator, specifically designed to provide the power and interface signals to an LNB down converter via coaxial cable in satellite TV receivers systems. Also available in this 5th generation LNB regulator family are several single channel devices – the A8300 and A8300-1 (targeted at 2-way DiSEqCTM and LCD TV applications) and the A8304 (targeted at 1-way DiSEqC TM applications).

This new dual IC device requires few external components, with the boost switch and compensation circuitry integrated inside of the device. The boost converter’s switching frequency (563 or 939 kHz) and user-controlled current limit (250 to 950 mA) minimize the size of the external components. A sleep pin is available to maximize power savings and to quickly shut down the device if needed, without using I²C™ control.

The A8302 can either provide an internal 22-kHz tone or accepts an external 22-kHz tone for DiSEqC™ communications. It also has integrated 22 kHz tone detection capability, and the internal bypass FET gate drive simplifies full 2-way DiSEqC™ communications if needed. The A8302 offers Early Power Failure (EPF) warning, which helps to initiate shutdown routines. The A8302 maximum output reverse current can be set using a control bit. A comprehensive set of fault registers are provided, which comply with all the common standards, including: overcurrent, thermal shutdown, undervoltage, and output out of range.

The A8302SETTR-T is provided in a 5 × 5 mm QFN package (suffix ET) with exposed pad for thermal dissipation. It is lead (Pb) free, with 100% matte tin leadframe plating.  It is priced at $1.89 in quantities of 1,000.
