Bosch ESC Featured on 2007 North American International Auto Show Vehicles

Bosch’s Electronic Stability Control, which improves safety and prevents vehicle crashes, is on new vehicles displayed at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. The 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, voted Truck of the Year by the North American International Auto Show and the 2007 Toyota Camry, Motor Trend Magazine’s Car of the Year, both include Bosch’s latest Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.

The best protection against crashes is to prevent them before they occur. Even if appropriate speeds are maintained, any driver can lose control of their vehicle during emergency or abrupt maneuvers. ESC can prevent skidding and subsequent loss of control, through autonomous and precise management of brakes and engine power.

Bosch’s ESC builds on the advantages of Antilock Braking Systems (ABS) and Traction Control Systems (TCS) with additional sensors to constantly monitor and compare a vehicle’s actual direction with the driver’s intention. In all driving conditions, Bosch ESC can detect and correct vehicle instabilities to keep the vehicle stable and safely on course.

Bosch’s Electronic Stability Control on the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2007 Toyota Camry represents Bosch’s commitment to highway safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has concluded that if installed on all vehicles, ESC could prevent nearly one-third of fatal crashes each year, up to 10,000; reduce rollover risk by as much has 80 percent; and, reduce insurance losses under collision coverage by approximately 15 percent.
