Clarizen Strengthens Position as First Project Vendor to Offer Project Management and CAD Integratio

Clarizen, a provider of on-demand, online project management software, today announced that it is the first project software vendor to integrate project management and computer-aided design (CAD) in the marketplace. This integrated environment enables distributed design and engineering teams, including suppliers and customers, to manage and track the project’s progress within their CAD tools to ensure teams are synchronized in terms of schedule, progress and accountability. Clarizen’s integration with SolidWorks, a leading 3D mechanical CAD vendor, is also now generally available.

Project plans and engineering activities have historically been managed in separate environments – the desktop-based project management tools and CAD tools respectively – creating miscommunication and project delays. As a result, teams of engineers, working on a common program with suppliers and customers, faced challenges in easily sharing project schedules, dependencies, progress, action items and related documents with each other.

Clarizen’s CAD integration allows design engineers to easily create new project tasks, update the status of tasks, view task due dates or attach CAD drawings to project tasks for collaboration with team members – all from within their CAD system. Any of these updates, changes or new documents attached by a CAD user are then automatically reflected in Clarizen and then are visible within the CAD environment of other virtual team members ensuring everyone is on the same page. Using this capability, distributed design and engineering teams can streamline the execution of their projects and make sure nothing is overlooked as they work on multiple projects at the same time.

“Effective project execution in distributed design and engineering teams cannot be achieved by keeping the project management and design environment on two separate systems, with e-mail and phone as the primary way of communicating and collaborating,” said Avinoam Nowogrodski, chief executive officer and co-founder of Clarizen. “With flawless execution of design and engineering projects becoming the basis of competitive advantage, our CAD integration allows engineers and team members to be on the same page all the time. We will continue to use our Open API to integrate Clarizen with other popular CAD tools to enable design and engineering users worldwide a streamlined way of managing projects.”
