Keith J. Smith to succeed Charlie Crew as SABIC Executive Vice President, Innovative Plastics

SABIC in the Americas region announced today that its Innovative Plastics Executive Vice President Charlie Crew will retire January 1, 2012. He will be succeeded by Keith J. Smith, formerly of DuPont. Mr. Smith will join SABIC effective December 1, 2011 to plan for the transition.

Crew retires after more than 34 years of distinguished company service. With a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Villanova University, he joined GE Plastics in 1977 as an account manager. In 1994 he was named vice president and general manager of Americas’ Commercial Operations for GE Plastics. He next served as vice president of the ABS business. He then became vice president of Global Ventures and led the sale of GE Plastics to SABIC. He was appointed to his current position of SABIC Executive Vice President leading the Innovative Plastics business in March 2008.

“Since joining the SABIC organization, Charlie has been a valued contributor to the success of the Plastics’ business acquisition from GE,” said SABIC CEO Mohamed Al-Mady. “He has been a valued partner and important source of advice during a very critical period of organizational change. We wish Charlie the very best in the future.”

Smith is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering. He joined DuPont in 1980. His most recent position with DuPont was vice president, Sourcing and Logistics, Wilmington, Delaware. Prior to this, he was vice president and general manager, DuPont Engineering Polymers, Wilmington, Delaware; Global Marketing, Sales and Development Director, DuPont Engineering Polymers, Geneva, Switzerland; Global Business Director Polymers, DuPont Engineering Polymers, Geneva, Switzerland; and held other key technical and managerial positions in TiO2, Advanced Fibers, Industrial Chemicals and Research & Technology.

“Keith is an accomplished executive with diverse expertise and a proven record of delivering productivity improvements and growth,” said Mr. Al-Mady. “I am confident he will sustain this success for himself and our company.”
