Unlocking Russia’s gateway

With a population in excess of 144 million, Russia represents a huge market for automobile logistics. Wallenius Wilhelmsen is creating a launch pad for logistics services into Russia and the Baltic States.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen is moving to cater for unprecedented market growth by establishing a 22 hectare state-of-the-art handling terminal in the Finnish port of Kotka. The port is ideally located to deliver logistics services and the new facility will improve Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s ability to service customers targeting the Russian market.

Kimmo Särmakäri, Head of Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Finland emphasizes the opportunity that the new terminal represents: “When the Kotka terminal comes into operation later this year it will be a vital new tool enabling us to take a substantially larger share of vehicle imports into Russia.”

Wallenius Wilhelmsen is currently the only automobile logistics company active in Kotka. With the capacity to handle 6000 cars initially and up to 10,000 cars as the site grows to over 90 hectares, Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s commitment to the market is undeniable.
