NVIDIA GTC Europe 2016 – New AI supercomputer, new collaboration with TomTom, and more

NVIDIA GTC Europe 2016 - New AI supercomputer

At the inaugural GPU Technology Conference Europe https://www.gputechconf.eu/Home.aspx  NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang discussed some exciting announcements for the self-driving car space. From our new Xavier AI supercomputer to a collaboration with TomTom for HD mapping, NVIDIA is truly accelerating the race to self-driving cars.

*         Xavier SoC https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/09/28/xavier/ –  Xavier is a complete system-on-chip (SoC). The processor will deliver 20 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of performance, while consuming only 20 watts of power. As the brain of a self-driving car, Xavier is designed to be compliant with critical automotive standards, such as the ISO 26262 functional safety specification.

*         NVIDIA & TomTom – Collaboration to develop artificial intelligence to create a cloud-to-car mapping system for self-driving cars.

*         NVIDIA AI Self-Driving Car Demonstration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-96BEoXJMs0 – In contrast to the usual approach to operating self-driving cars, we did not program any explicit object detection, mapping, path planning or control components into this car. Instead, the car learns on its own to create all necessary internal representations necessary to steer, simply by observing human drivers.
